The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Philly?

Button from Rally for Philly to get Rock Hall

In the interest of full disclosure I have to come clean and say that I was a student in Philadelphia in 1986 who attended a downtown rally with Chubby Checker for the City of Brotherly Love to be declared the City of Rock & Roll.

Philadelphia’s main claim to the hall was in the fact that the city was the original home to American Bandstand, launching pad to South Philly’s own Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Chubby Checker and others.

Philly was offering up a white elephant of a concrete museum on the Delaware River to be the site for the hall.  From what I remember the bid was weak, the rally was cold and even the button (which I held onto for some reason for 24 years) was about as creative as a snow painting of a white out.

Just a few pics I took a year ago from Newschopper 5 while flying over downtown Cleveland a few hours after that massive water main break in the heart of Public Square sent millions of gallons of water racing through downtown Cleveland.
